If you ever get the esteemed pleasure of working with Ashley Smith of Buzzworthy Events on a wedding, then you are in a very fortunate position as a photographer. Ashley is one of the most visionary planners + designers in the industry right now, bringing her edgy yet refined vision to all of her clients whether they get married in the city or under the redwoods, and elevates their wedding day to something beyond the norm. Thinking outside the box is totally my deal as well, so working with her has been a dream every time. I was thrilled when she recommended me to Monica + Jeff to shoot their rainy, winter wedding in San Francisco this past February, as they are two of the nicest people I could ever hope to work with and, in my view, a bit of a Mission District power couple. M + J are very architecturally and design minded so no average venue would fit their style, and they secured the NWBLK, a historical site in SF where they used to make all of the street signs decades ago (those are actual beams from the Golden Gate bridge) now used as a designer art & furniture gallery. Ashley took cues from the venue’s minimal, industrial look and the sophisticated style of M + J, then carried that through every detail of their wedding day resulting in one of my favorite modern reception designs ever, perfectly complimented by the stunning floral treatment from Eothen. There are so many more details and stories behind everything in this wedding I can’t possibly sum up here, so check out the feature on Green Wedding Shoes for more!
